Established in 1985, Harvest Help provides practical support to communities in rural Africa, helping them to improve their livelihoods through sustainable farming and increased self-reliance.

Harvest Help was born out of the compassionate response of the UK public, to famine in Africa. In 1985, Voluntary Christian Service (VCS) came across the work of Leo and Ginnie Goodfellow in Zambia. Leo and Ginnie were working with the desperately poor Tonga people on the shores of Lake Kariba. VCS felt compelled to give people in the UK the opportunity to support this good work – Harvest Help was the organisation established to make this possible. Since 1985, Harvest Help's work has gradually expanded, helping over 15,000 farmers and their families (90,000 people) across rural Africa.

Today, Harvest Help assists these farmers to grow more food and earn enough money to provide for their families. We aim to reach 20,000 by the end of 2006. Our vision is a world in which rural communities, especially in Africa, are free from poverty and insecurity and have the skills and resources to improve their own livelihoods. We hope for an Africa where no child will go hungry and where farmers can provide for the needs of their families.

Trax Ghana

Trax Ghana

Trax Ghana is based in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region of Ghana and works with people in seven rural districts. Land is under pressure here from severe climatic conditions and people struggle to provide enough food for themselves, let alone to sell so that they can pay for education or health services.

Trax Ghana is helping people to challenge these problems. Awooma Atoakah lives in the community of Beo Tankoo and has been a great example of how things can change.

Trax Togo

Trax Togo

Trax Togo is based in Dapaong in the Savannes Region of Togo, working with four community based organisations in the area to help address the basic problems they face. Trax Togo was formed after people in the rural areas saw the impact of the Trax approach on their families and friends across the border in Ghana and asked that they share it with them.

After only three years of work the people of Malagou are already beginning to see the positive impact on their lives.
